I Got a Tattoo (& Things to Consider if You Want One, Too)

So I got a tattoo yesterday. To some people, this may be extremely surprising that I got a tattoo at all. To others, it may be extremely surprising that I actually pulled the trigger & went through with it. No, this was not some super spontaneous decision to permanently mark my body–a lot of people don’t know I’ve been thinking about this for about a year and half & finally made a solid decision to do it about two weeks ago. Regardless, I can honestly say that I’m ridiculously happy I did it & I’m actually obsessed with the whole experience and how it all turned out.

Beyond that, I was overwhelmed by the amount of support I got from my friends when they saw the final product on social media. I also got a lot of questions about the process & how I’m feeling about it, so I wanted to dedicate a post about my tattoo experience and some things to consider if you’re contemplating getting one too. Enjoy!

7 Ways to Get Over a Breakup

Breakups suck. There’s really no way around that. I went through a breakup a couple months ago and the number one condolence I heard was “everything will be okay eventually,” followed by “time heals all wounds.” And like, I knew those things were true (this is not my first rodeo with heartbreak!) but I got super frustrated because I knew things would be fine in time…yet I kept wondering, “what the hell am I supposed to do in the meantime?”

Recently, a bunch of my friends broke up with their significant others (seriously, what’s with this year?), and I found myself telling them the same cliches I heard in the beginning (“Everything works out! In time, you’ll be fine, I promise!”) And then they would ask, “but yea, but what do I do now? In the meantime?” Touché, ya got me there.

This is where this list comes in. This is in no way a fool-proof plan to get over your ex (everyone’s different & everyone has their own timeline and that’s OKAY), but here are a few tangible suggestions to help you get you from “sad now” to “happy eventually.” Try one, try them all–hopefully it’ll make you smile a little bit. (And if none of these work, just enjoy the funny gifs & listen to It Ain’t Me on repeat because its a jam/guaranteed to make you feel good).

New Year’s Resolution: Not Figuring It Out

When my doctor first told me that I had high blood pressure, my immediate thought was, “I’m way too young to have heart problems.” I’m 23, I work out, eat relatively healthy and manage my stress (for the most part). It was probably a mistake.

But a few months later, I woke up with chest tightness that didn’t go away…for a week. Considering WebMD advised it was either a) a heart attack and I should have been dead by now or b) some rare form of cancer, I decided to go back to the doctor.

Her response? “You’re probably experiencing a prolonged anxiety attack.” (Who knew that  was a thing.) Anti-anxiety meds in hand and instructions to measure my blood pressure 3 times a week, I left the office.
