The Brunch Review: Union Bar & Kitchen (New York, New York)

Well, it has been a WHILE since I’ve done a brunch review (that’s not to say I haven’t brunched lately…come on now). Of course I’ve gone to brunch almost every weekend in January, but I’ve been going to the same old places. Honestly, the last brunch review I wrote was back in July when I went to visit friends in NYC…and this current review features another NYC brunch spot I went to a few weeks ago. I guess I should just keep visiting NYC for good brunches. I know my friend JD will encourage this since he’s always yelling at me for not visiting more often… ;)

Anyways, lets get to it. As much as I love Philly, I gotta say, NYC is the mecca of brunch & rightfully so. Up for review is Union Bar & Kitchen. Cheers.

10 Tips for Pulling Off an Awesome Friendsgiving

When my group of friends and I were juniors in college, we decided to throw our first Friendsgiving (read about it here).  We had just moved into our junior apartments and figured we could all manage to make traditional Thanksgiving dishes. What started off as 10ish people wanting to sit around and eat turkey turned into 50+ friends reserving a lecture hall & my friends Danielle and Christa making not one, but two turkeys.

The first Friendsgiving

Senior year, we had another Friendsgiving, just as big, just as fun. When we all graduated, we dropped the ball on Friendsgiving (idk, we were learning how to be adults or something), but then last year we came back in full force (albeit smaller than our original Friendsgiving) and managed to pull off the prettiest/most adult meal I’ve ever had.

Friendsgiving 2017 will be happening next weekend, and it’s safe to say that my friends and I have this whole Friendsgiving thing down pat. So, I wanted to share some expert tips on how to throw your very own awesome Friendsgiving. Gobble, gobble.

Quick & Easy Pumpkin Breakfast Cookies

True confession: I really, really don’t enjoy cooking. It’s not for lack of trying, though. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve attempted fun, Pinterest recipes only for them to turn out slightly-above-mediocre. People argue that cooking is creative & you can add your own flair without having to follow a strict recipe. Personally, that has never worked for me. And to people who can just whip something together, I envy you because for some reason I just suck at cooking.

That being said, I love love love baking. I love the precision of baking–if you follow the recipe strictly to a T, it will turn out well no matter what. Being a Type A, this makes my soul happy.

Good news is, it’s fall so that means it’s officially baking season! I made these easy (& healthy!!) pumpkin breakfast cookies the other week and loved them. For all you “just eyeball-it” cooks out there, this baking recipe doesn’t have to be super precise (it’s flexible & will turn out well if you generally follow the instructions), and for all you bakers out there like me, there is some precision and a guarantee that you won’t mess it up. Oh, and they only take 15 minutes to make & they’re gluten and dairy-free. Keep scrolling to find out more.
