The Brunch Review: Bud & Marilyn’s

It’s been a while since I had a good Philly brunch. What’s a basic girl to do? Call up her other brunch-loving friends & brunch until her heart desires, of course! Up for review is Bud & Marilyn’s in the heart of Center City.

Location: Corner of 13th & Locust

What makes it unique…its 60’s vibe. It feels like the set of Mad Men or your grandma’s house when your parents were growing up. Think wood paneling, pleather bar stools & old fashioned dishes.

You know what brunch goes well with? Booze. My friend Chris said, “the Bloody Mary’s are fuego” (and even though I’m not a Bloody Mary fan, I’d have to agree with him). Personally, I was sipping on a Grapefruit Mimosa, but anything off their cocktail menu sounds fab.

Take a chance and order: the shakshukah. My friend Aminah had it and it was to DIE for. (Don’t worry, I wasn’t sure what “shakshukah” was either but it’s my new favorite dish). Vegetarian?  The Veggie & Tofu Hash is also delicious (whether you prefer meat or not). And if you’re in the mood for a more savory brunch, the Buttermilk pancakes with lemon ricotta and fresh berries can only be described as heavenly.

Honorable mentions (aka things we were considering on the menu) include: The warm pecan cinnamon rolls, Marilyn’s Fried Chicken Bucket and the biscuits & gravy.

The *: Bud & Marilyn’s has great food because it’s owned by the same people who own some of your other 13th Street favorites: Barbuzzo, Lolita & Little Nonna’s (all of which I’ll be reviewing at some point!)

The lemon ricotta… ugh.

The bottom line: This is such a cool place! Definitely worth the visit to enjoy the atmosphere and obviously the amazing food. Just another hidden gem of Philly’s awesome food scene.

Here’s to eating my way up and down 13th street & always making time for brunch. &.
